The story of Cinderella is a true rags-to-riches story that has been told and retold for generations. It is a story that seems to resonate with people all over the world with a message of hope that everyone can appreciate.
It is believed that the first time the story was told it involved a Greek slave girl who married an Egyptian king. The story evolved with time and its first European version was published in 1634. It was later retold by the Brothers Grimm in their famous collection of fairy tales, Grimms’ Fairy Tales which featured other classic fairy tales such as Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and more.

The moral of the Cinderella story is that kindness, courage, and inner beauty are way more important than outer beauty and fancy things. The story also teaches us that good things come to those who are patient and persevere no matter how difficult their lives may be!
While we are never told what Cinderella’s real name is, and it is never mentioned in the original story, she is sometimes simply referred to as “Ella.”
Cinderella was special because she chose to remain gentle and kind, despite the fact that she was very badly treated. Some of her best qualities include that she always tried to see the good in others and her courage and perseverance won out in the end!
We aren’t specifically told where the original story takes place but it is thought that it takes place in a European kingdom with some speculating that it takes place in France in around the 1600s or 1700s.
